If laughing gas sedation is insufficient but you still wish to remain conscious during treatment, our dentist can prescribe sedatives. A commonly used sedative is Dormicum. You will remain conscious, but you will not be very aware of the treatment itself. This means you will remember less of the treatment, which can help to reduce your fear of the dentist.

How does Dormicum work?

The active ingredient in Dormicum is midazolam. This substance makes you feel calmer during treatment. It reduces anxiety about the dentist and relaxes your muscles.

How long does Dormicum take to work?

It takes between half an hour and an hour for the tablet to take effect. The effect then lasts for several hours. This means that you don’t have to worry about the medication wearing off during treatment.

Can I drive after treatment?

If you opt for Dormicum treatment, you must not drive. This is because the medicine can make you feel drowsy, tired or sleepy. This reduces your reaction time, which can lead to dangerous situations on the road. Therefore, make sure someone accompanies you to take you home safely.

What are the side effects of this medicine?

As well as making you sleepy, it reduces your reaction time and concentration. You may therefore experience temporary problems with concentration.
