Light Sedation in Amsterdam

Light sedation is a safe solution for patients who experience a lot of anxiety during dental treatment. You will continue to breathe independently, but you will notice virtually nothing of the procedure and often have no memory of it afterwards. Would you like to discuss whether this could help with your anxiety? Make an appointment or register as a new patient.

  • It is a great solution for patients with severe anxiety
  • We have space for new patients
  • Our care is rated 9.8

So, what exactly is light anaesthesia?

It is a form of sedation that puts you in a relaxed, semi-conscious state. Although you are not completely anaesthetised, as you would be during surgery in a hospital, you are much less aware of the dental treatment. While under light anaesthesia, you continue to breathe independently and respond to stimuli, and your anxiety and tension are greatly reduced. This method ensures that stressful procedures can be carried out in a safe and calm manner, making them more comfortable.

How does light anaesthesia work?

We would like to inform you about its use during treatment. It works as follows:

Phase 1: preparation

We will prepare you for what to expect during treatment under light anaesthesia. Using the cost estimate provided, you can check with your health insurer whether the treatment will be reimbursed. Once all the information has been discussed, we will schedule your treatment.

Phase 2: induction of light anaesthesia

An anaesthetist will be present throughout your treatment under light anaesthesia. They will monitor you throughout the procedure. You will be given a sedative to keep you asleep and prevent you from being conscious during the procedure.

Phase 3: after treatment

Once the treatment is complete, you will regain consciousness. The anaesthetist will provide aftercare and help you recover from the anaesthetic. The dentist will then talk you through the treatment that has been carried out.

What should you consider when undergoing light anaesthesia treatment?

  • A medical check-up is a medical examination to determine whether you are suitable for light anaesthesia.
  • Insurance: Check with your insurer whether they cover light anaesthesia.
  • Preparation: you are often not allowed to eat or drink for several hours before the treatment. This reduces the risk of complications.
  • Recovery is usually faster than with general anaesthesia. However, you may experience short-term drowsiness or fatigue.
  • Accompaniment: It is important that someone accompanies you home after the treatment, as you will not be allowed to drive yourself.

Light anaesthesia costs

Simply request a quote from us for the treatment. This will enable you to check with your health insurer exactly how much you will be reimbursed. Your health insurer may ask you for a statement from our dentist about your fear of treatment. Based on this statement, the insurer will approve your reimbursement.

Is light anaesthesia suitable for my treatment?

We will provide appropriate advice and an explanation of the use of light anaesthesia for the treatment to be performed. At iSmile Dental Practice, you can opt for light anaesthesia in the following situations:
