What is an endodontist?

An endodontist is a dentist who specialises in endodontology. Endodontology deals with the inside of teeth. This refers to the core of the tooth, also known as the root canal system. The living part of our teeth is called the pulp. Endodontists examine this inner part of the teeth. They provide a prognosis and then develop a treatment plan to relieve pain.

What does an endodontist do?

Performing complex root canal treatments.
Retreating root canals that did not heal properly after initial treatment.
Treating inflammation of the dental nerve and surrounding tissue.
Detecting and treating hidden or difficult-to-reach root canals.
Performing microsurgical procedures, such as apex resection (removal of the root tip).
Assessing and treating dental injuries affecting the nerve or root.

Do I need a referral to see the endodontist?

As mentioned, you need a referral from your dentist to be treated by our endodontist. If one or more of your teeth is/are inflamed, we will perform root canal treatment. You will also receive a referral to the endodontist for the removal of wisdom teeth that cannot be removed by a dentist.

What are the costs for an endodontist?

The Dutch Healthcare Authority determines the costs for the endodontist annually. This means that the cost of treatment, such as a root canal, is the same at every practice. As these costs vary annually, we cannot quote an amount here. For the current costs, please refer to our price list.

Will I be reimbursed for the endodontist?

Treatment by an endodontist is reimbursed up to the age of 18. If you are over 18, reimbursement depends on your health insurance policy. To have the costs reimbursed, you need supplementary insurance. For more information, please consult your health insurer.

If you’re driving, parking is available on the street itself, close to the practice.

If you’re arriving by bicycle, you can easily park it in the racks across the street.

The De Pijp and Cornelis Troostplein tram stops are both a few short minutes of walking away from our clinic.
