An endodontist specialises in complex root canal treatments, as well as retreatment if the wound does not heal properly after the initial procedure. Endodontology focuses on the inside of your teeth. To arrange an appointment with our endodontist, you will require a referral letter from your dentist. If you are experiencing tooth pain, make an appointment with iSmile. We will then write a referral letter for our endodontist in consultation with you.
I have never visited a dental hygienist before. Is it necessary?
Generally, we recommend that patients visit a dental hygienist twice a year. At our practice, the dentist also carries out oral hygiene treatments. You do not need to make a separate appointment for this.
What does an endodontist do?
A dentist who specialises in endodontology is called an endodontist. Endodontology deals with the inside of teeth. This is referred to as the tooth’s core, or the root canal system. The living part of our teeth is called the pulp. Endodontists examine this inner part of the tooth. They provide a prognosis and then develop a treatment plan to relieve the pain.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral to see the endodontist?
As mentioned, you will need a referral from your dentist to be treated by our specialist. If you have an infected tooth or teeth, we will perform root canal treatment. You will also be referred to the endodontist for the removal of wisdom teeth that a dentist cannot remove.
What are the costs for an endodontist?
The Dutch Healthcare Authority sets the costs for endodontists annually. This means that the cost of treatment, such as a root canal, is the same at every practice. As these costs vary annually, we cannot quote an amount here. For the current costs, please refer to our price list.
Will I be reimbursed for the endodontist?
Treatment by an endodontist is reimbursed up to the age of 18. If you are over 18, reimbursement depends on your health insurance policy. To have the costs reimbursed, you need supplementary insurance. For more information, please consult your health insurer.

Thanks to our central location in Amsterdam West, iSmile Tandartspraktijk is easy to reach. If you come by bike, you can park it right outside our door. If you’re travelling by car, you can park at Parking Bos en Lommerplantsoen or at the Mobypark – Zahia’s car park. Alternatively, take the train to Amsterdam Sloterdijk Station and continue your journey with one of the following buses or trams:

In addition to our beautiful practice in Amsterdam West, we have a second practice in Amsterdam South. You can find this practice at Lutmastraat 15H, 1072 JL. Are you coming by bike? You can park your bike in the racks across the street. Is the car faster? Then you can park it on our street. If you’re travelling by train, get off at Central Station. From there, you can take various metro and tram services to reach us.
