What is fluoride?

Fluoride is a natural trace element found in our teeth and bones. This natural substance strengthens tooth surfaces and protects against cavities and tooth decay. It is also found in toothpaste, fluoride tablets and certain foods and drinks.

Fluoride treatment at the dentist

You then need to keep the trays in your mouth for 10 minutes to allow the fluoride to work effectively. Alternatively, the fluoride can be applied to the teeth using a cotton swab or brush. Fluoride toothpaste

Have your teeth been treated with fluoride before? If so, it is important to maintain this protection. Use a fluoride toothpaste to continue protecting your teeth. Follow these guidelines for using fluoride toothpaste:

• Age 0–2: Brush once a day with toddler toothpaste.
• Ages 2–5: Brush twice a day with toddler toothpaste.
• From age 5+, brush twice a day with adult toothpaste.
