Crowns or bridges offer a solution for missing, damaged or discoloured teeth. The dentist uses a crown or bridge to correct the external shape and position of your tooth. Once the treatment is complete, your teeth will look beautiful again and chewing will be easier. Are you afraid of the dentist? Don’t worry: as anxiety specialists, we are experienced in treating nervous patients. We take our time and explain the treatment step by step. You can also choose to have the treatment performed under light anaesthesia or with the use of nitrous oxide.

What are crowns and bridges?

A crown is a porcelain cap that replaces a chipped or discoloured tooth. The dentist glues the crown to the tooth to replace it. If you are missing a tooth, the dentist will first place an implant, to which the crown is then attached. If you are missing several teeth or molars, you are eligible for a bridge. A bridge connects adjacent existing teeth. The dentist clicks the bridge in place on these teeth so that the open space disappears.

When is a crown or bridge suitable?

Een kroon of brug laten plaatsen biedt uitkomst wanneer:

  • part of your tooth has rotted away due to tooth decay;
  • chewing is difficult because teeth and/or molars are missing;
  • your teeth are crooked;
  • there is discolouration on your tooth.

How does the process of fitting a crown or bridge work?

Step 1: grinding off the tooth

It is important that a crown or bridge fits your teeth properly. Therefore, your dentist will grind part of your tooth. This is done under local anaesthetic, so you won’t feel any pain during the procedure.

Step 2: making an impression

After grinding, we take a dental impression using an impression tray containing soft material. This creates an impression into which the dental laboratory then pours plaster. They then use this to make a custom-made crown or bridge.

Step 3: bite registration

Next, the dentist takes a bite registration to assess the position of your teeth in relation to each other. This provides a clear picture of the height of the crown or bridge, as well as the shape of the chewing and cutting surfaces.

Step 4: selecting the right colour

We determine the right colour in agreement with you. This is done based on a colour scheme to ensure the colour matches your other teeth perfectly.

Step 5: temporary emergency provision

While the dental laboratory creates your customised tooth or bridge, we provide an emergency solution. This temporary crown protects the abraded tooth. After an average of three weeks, your crown or bridge is ready. The second treatment also takes place after three weeks.

Step 6: placement of crown or bridge

During the second appointment, we fit the final crown or bridge. We apply quick-setting cement to the inside and then slide the crown or bridge into place.
