Regular flossing helps to reduce the risk of tartar build-up. However, once tartar has formed, it is difficult to remove. Our dental hygienist specialises in removing tartar and plaque. This build-up can lead to tooth decay, so it is important to make regular appointments with the hygienist. We can also intervene when tartar is located in hard-to-reach areas.

What is tartar?

Tartar is plaque that has not been removed from the teeth in time. It mainly forms near the gums, as well as behind and between the teeth. Brushing your teeth does not remove all tartar. At iSmile Tandartspraktijk, we can remove tartar professionally and painlessly.

How to remove tartar yourself

You can remove a small amount of tartar at home. However, we always recommend visiting our practice so that we can remove all of the tartar using professional tools. Here’s what you can do to prevent tartar:

  • Floss and brush twice a day.
  • Use a mouthwash that prevents tartar.
  • Use a toothpick to loosen tartar.
  • Use an electric toothbrush.

Tartar removal at iSmile Dental Practice

We use professional equipment to remove tartar from your teeth. We generally use two techniques:

  • Scalers: These are small hooks that we use to loosen tartar from your teeth.
  • A tartar removal device. This device emits vibrations that loosen the tartar.
